Runners at the Borneo Trail Classic 2023

KUCHING: A total of 1,980 participants from across the globe competed in the Borneo Trail Classic 2023 recently to test their mettle on challenging terrains and immerse themselves in the natural wonders of Borneo.

The Borneo Trail Classic, organised by a dedicated team of trail running enthusiasts and supported by generous sponsors, volunteers, and local communities, delivered an unforgettable experience for all involved.

Bold Warriors Adventure and Exploration Club, in a press release yesterday (Oct 12) said the unforgettable race held last Saturday saw runners traversed an awe-inspiring race course, navigating lush jungles, river crossings, and demanding ascents, all while being surrounded by the pristine beauty of Borneo.

“The (race) course showcased the rich biodiversity and natural treasures that the region has to offer and Borneo Trail Classic this year offers four distances – 50 kilometres, 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres, 7 kilometres and kids – 3 kilometres and 1 kilometres.

“This year’s event saw a diverse group of participants, from seasoned trail runners to newcomers eager to take on the challenge. It was a testament to the inclusive nature of the Borneo Trail Classic, where runners of all backgrounds come together to celebrate their love for trail running.

“There were runners from Australia, Brunei, China, France, Indonesia, India, Kenya, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and America,” the statement read.

In a similar statement, the president of Bold Warrior Adventure and Exploration Club, Richard Lee said the Borneo Trail Classic was not just a race; it was a testament to the enduring human spirit.

He said it was about pushing boundaries, embracing the unknown and forging connections with nature and one another.

“Looking forward, as we reflect on the success of the 2023 Borneo Trail Classic, we eagerly anticipate the next edition, which promises even more thrilling challenges and breathtaking moments.

“We remain committed to promoting trail running, environmental sustainability, and a deep appreciation for the natural wonders of Borneo,” he added.
