KUCHING: Deka Fit Sarawak 2022 is an international decathlon of functional fitness competition under the Spartan brand where athletes compete through Deka zones.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Deka Fit Sarawak 2022, the first organised in Southeast Asia, would be held on Nov 12 (Saturday) at Stadium Perpaduan here.

“We hope by having this inaugural competition in Sarawak, it will become the benchmark for fitness levels for athletes around the region, making Sarawak its sports tourism destination,” he said on yesterday (Oct 31).

“To date, we have 1,000 registrations from over 80 different countries, including Brunei, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, UAE and South Africa.”

“As part of an ongoing marketing campaign to promote the event, Deka Fit Sarawak 2022 is proud to collaborate with several well-known athletes in the fitness industry as the official Deka Fit Sarawak 2022 ambassadors,” he added.

He also said that Deka Fit Sarawak was expected to attract 1,500 athletes competing in three categories – Open, Group Age and Elite, where athletes would vie for the top prize of RM2,000.

“We at Spartan are extremely excited to be working with the Sarawak government to bring for the first time ever in Southeast Asia the Spartan Deka Fit,” said Carter Wei from Spartan Southeast Asia.

“With the previous success and fanfare of Spartan Race Sarawak in 2019 and most recently June 2022, we are confident in bringing more Spartan branded events soon, such as Spartan Kids, Spartan Trail, and world-renowned Tough Mudder.”

“I hope that we can continue this strong collaboration as we strive towards providing a unique and epic race experience in Sarawak for all Spartans!” he added.
